Giants Move Into 4th Place In The West With A Win In SpokaneFeb 15, 2012 - 14:07 PST
The Vancouver Giants defeated the Spokane Chiefs 2-1 Wednesday night in Spokane. With the victory the Giants move two points up on the Chiefs for soul possession of 4th place in the Western Conference. The Giants finished the season series 2-0 vs. Spokane.
As expected the first period was spent feeling each other out as they hadn't faced off against one another since October. No goals were scored in the first 20 minutes as the Chiefs outshot the Giants 8-5. Marek Tvrdon was assessed a five minute match penalty for spearing Brenden Kichton at the end of the period. A call that would end Tvrdon's night.
The Giants were able to kill off the 5 minute power play, but just 38 seconds later Liam Stewart scored to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Before the period was out Cain Franson banged home a rebound for his 23rd goal of the year to even the score at 1-1 after 40 minutes.
In the third the Giants would take their first lead of the night as Jackson Houck and Neil Manning orchestrated a give and go to perfection. Houck tapped it home for his 5th goal of the season, snapping his 13 game goalless drought. From there, Adam Morrison took over, making 17 saves in the period and 32 saves on the night to help the Giants earn a 2-1 victory. For Morrison it was his 30th victory of the year.
The Giants now return home to take on the Edmonton Oil Kings this Friday. Game time is 7:30 pm. It is the first Giant Alumni Night of the year. Former blueliner Cody Franson will be honoured. He will be added to the Giants Ring of Honour and 500 lucky fans will walk away with a Cody Franson bobblehead doll. The pregame show begins at 7:00 pm AM 650.
