The Vancouver Giants congratulate import left-winger Marek Tvrdon for earning himself a 3-year entry level contract with the Detroit Red Wings. Tvrdon was a 4th Round selection of the Wings in the 2011 NHL Draft, going 115th overall.
The 6’2″, 217 lbs native of Nitra, Slovakia had a tremendous bounce-back season for the Giants in 2011/2012, after his first WHL campaign was cut short by injury only 12 games into the 2010/2011 season. Last year Tvrdon had 31 goals and 43 assists in 60 regular season games, then added another 3 goals and 3 assists in 6 post-season match-ups.
The 19-year-old also represented his native Slovakia at the 2011 World Junior Championship in Alberta, where he notched 3 goals and 1 assist in 6 tournament games.
Tvrdon is the second Giant to sign an NHL contract this weekend, as fellow 2011 draft pick David Musil also inked a 3-year entry level deal with the Edmonton Oilers.
